SEAGATE GLOBAL – FINANCIAL ADVISORY TO 21ST CENTURY MERCHANT BANK

William Lawton and Douglas Metcalf began working together in 1983 at First Interstate Bank Ltd, when that merchant bank established a unit to develop global interest rate and currency swaps. Over the next six years, the unit was ranked in the top 5, built a $20 billion notional portfolio and generated over $100,000,000 in net income. Doug went to Trust Company of the West and became managing director of the Emerging Markets Fixed Income unit and Bill joined TCW in 1992 and together with Doug became the first foreign advisor to the State Administration for Foreign Exchange at the Central Bank of China. Bill left in 1996 to create Seagate Global Advisors and Doug rejoined his partner in 2000.

Seagate Global CEO William Lawton’s driving passion for over 30 years has been to help people through trade and investment and fostering sustainable economic growth in Asia. This “people first” approach has produced extraordinary returns for our investors and made Seagate one of the most respected names in Asia. It's been said that it takes ten thousand hours to become a master of anything. William Lawton has logged those hours and more working with Asia's key institutions, senior officials and heads of industry. He was hired to be the first foreign adviser to the People’s Bank of China in 1993. Then he founded the successful asset management company, Seabright, a joint venture between Seagate and China Everbright Limited that became a pioneer in China private equity. Lawton has been a Director of CITIC for many years. Seagate is a partner with HongTa Innovation Partners, the private equity subsidiary of the HongTa Group, the largest taxpayer in China. This year, Bill was named Senior International Investment Advisor to Kunming, capital city of Yunnan province, officially designated Gateway to the ASEAN Free Trade zone, the third largest and fastest growing Free Trade zone in the world.  Bill has been actively promoting peace through trade and investment in Southern Philippines and reducing hunger by supporting development of the SE Asia Commodity and Food Exchange network. Bill’s academic background includes BA in Economics from University of California Berkeley, Master of International Studies from the Monterey Institute and MBA Finance from Columbia University.

Seagate Global COO Douglas Metcalf for thirty-five years has managed multi-billion-dollar global funds which have consistently generated double-digit returns. He helped Lawton set the Central Bank of China on the path to become the greatest central bank in the world. He founded the emerging market fixed income departments at Trust Company of the West and Nomura Asset Management where he managed retail and institutional mutual funds, including the fund ranked #1 for one, three and five-year periods before he left to join Seagate in 2000. At Seagate he managed Seagate’s emerging markets strategy which averaged over 13%/year over the past nine years and now is applying his investment management experience to direct investments in Asia for Seagate's investors. Doug’s academic background includes BA in International Relations from University of Utah, MBA Finance and Investments from Brigham Young University and the Pacific Coast Graduate School of Banking at the University of Washington where Doug was on the faculty for ten years.

Seagate Global is a 21st Century Merchant Bank that uses the network created over the past 35 years to promote prosperity by providing access to global markets and bringing infrastructure to communities desperate for development.
